Bid to make roads safer for motorists and cyclists

Brake is working with the Metropolitan Police to ensure that motorists and cyclists in West Yorkshire can use the roads safely together.

The organisations are helping to tackle blind spot casualties, with an interactive workshop and demonstration taking place in Leeds tomorrow (February 7th).

Julie Townsend, deputy chief executive of Brake, said: "It’s crucial we make our roads safer for people to walk and cycle, so we’re pleased to be working with Metropolitan Police and fleet operators in the region to achieve this."

Chief inspector at the Metropolitan Police Ian Vincent told car insurance policyholders that the force was "delighted" to be working with Brake on this initiative to raise awareness of vehicle blind spots.

Motorists are often familiar with checking blind spots while travelling on the motorway, as they have to be aware of any vehicle which is travelling on their inside.

Drivers should ensure that they check their blind spot before undertaking a manoeuvre, especially in towns and cities where bikes and pedestrians are more common.
