Consider insuring valuables separately, expert says

Travellers that have to take valuable items with them on overseas journeys may have to think about insuring articles individually, it has been claimed.
According to Malcolm Tarling, a spokesperson for the Association of British Insurers, travel insurance policies generally only cover a limited amount in terms of valuable goods.
Mr Tarling suggested that people may have higher limits under their household policy, if they opted for covering all risks.
"It's a question of checking your policy and checking if you have cover for items outside of the home under your household policy," he said.
As well as this, Mr Tarling pointed out that it is always useful for consumers to properly read a policy before buying in order to fully understand what is and is not covered.
Research from Sainsbury's Travel Insurance suggested that some ten per cent of people journeying overseas do not take out travel insurance for their trip.
